Ada M. Turner

RICHMOND, Ind. - Ada M. Turner, age 96, of Richmond, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Forest Park Health Campus. She was born November 26, 1911, in Union County, Ind., to Joseph D. and Ollie O. Ramey Sheets and had resided in Richmond most of her life. Ada attended Manchester College and graduated from Reid Memorial School of Nursing in 1933. She was a private duty nurse and worked for Dr. Russell Malcolm, first Director of Nursing at Heritage House of Richmond, Director of Nursing at Colonial Crest, Assistant Administrator at Golden Rule, Director of Nursing at Golden Rule and was employed by Friends Fellowship in healthcare. Ada was a member of the Four Mile Church of the Brethren, A.A.R. P., 72 years of volunteer service to Red Cross, board member of Widowed Persons, individual member of Community Services Council, taught International Bible Study Fellowship, and a member of the Women's Club W.C.T.U. She was a volunteer at Reid Hospital for 27 years, accumulating 9,463 hours, was Volunteer of the Month Sept. 1999, received her 5,000-hour plaque May 1994 and received her Lifetime Volunteer Plaque in 2002, was Volunteer of the Year for Area 9 in 1999. Survivors include her son, James J. Turner and wife Erma of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; daughter-in-law, Catherine Turner of Richmond; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph L. Turner who died in 1965; son, Jerome L. Turner DVM; sister, Esther Hart; and brother, Lowell Sheets. Visitation for Ada M. Turner will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 at Doan & Mills with Rev. Clyde Hylton officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
