Betty Louise Jones Yeager

A little angel left in the loving arms of her Lord when Betty Louise Jones Yeager, age 91, passed away July 16, 2017, at Hickory Creek of Connersville. Betty was a blessing to many during her residence there as well as throughout her life. Loving her Lord and being a servant to others was the way she lived her life. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, to Herbert and Elizabeth Jones and graduated with an English major from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio. She married the Rev. Leslie C. Yeager in 1950 with the one request that he not take a pastorate in a small town. They immediately moved to Pershing, Indiana, to serve the Lord at Zion Lutheran Church, the perfect place to nurture them as a young couple with loving people to teach these “city kids” about rural life. After six and a half years, they moved to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, where they served for 17 years. Their final Parrish before retiring was St. James Lutheran Church in Greenfield, Indiana. Betty and Les were married for 64 years before his passing in 2014. They have two children, Leslie C. Yeager, Jr. (Margie) of Connersville, Indiana, and Julie Liggett (Darrell) of Greensburg Indiana. They have six grandchildren, Amanda Young of Indianapolis, Indiana, Andrew Yeager (Lisa) of Birmingham Alabama, Heather McCoy of Greensburg, Indiana, Melissa Gaskins (Jeremiah) of Greensburg, Indiana, Charles McCoy of Laurel, Indiana, and Elizabeth Yeager Hill (Joseph) of Maryville, Tennessee. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren with a seventh on the way. Being an only child, Betty welcomed all the brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews she gained when she married, and the many, many friends added through the years. Throughout her life Betty loved and worked for others. She was a hospital volunteer in each community where she lived. She was active in Lutheran church women’s organizations, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, International Bible Study Fellowship, school Study Buddies programs, Meals on Wheels, and a multitude of other organizations that served the needs of others. Her college sorority, Kappa Delta, remained important to her. Betty was also a “mom” to many. She and Les hosted international students through Rotary International. As a young couple, they sponsored a young man from a WW II displaced persons camp who lived with them for several years. Through their churches, they supported families from Latvia and Laos for resettlement in the United States and established life-long relationships. People said about Betty: “She always had a smile on her face.” “She is so sweet!” Betty was the person you could always sit next to at any gathering and know you would be treated kindly and made to feel at ease. Betty made wherever she was a 'kinder and gentler' place. If you were among those whom Betty touched with her life, you were blessed. Think of her now in Heaven not having to totter around anymore as she sees who she can help out there. Visitation to celebrate Betty’s life will be at Peace Lutheran Church, 701 West 3rd Street, Connersville, Indiana, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017. A service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing, Indiana. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
