Beverly K. Nixon

RICHMOND, Ind. – Beverly K. Nixon was called home to our Lord on Friday, October 21, 2022, at Avon Park, Florida. We have no doubt she is stitching beautiful works of art and enjoying the warmth of Heaven’s sunshine. Beverly was born December 6, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was raised in Williamsburg, Indiana, to Balfour and Thelma Johansen who preceded her in death, along with her loving stepfather, Clarence Duke also of Williamsburg, Indiana. Also preceding her in death was her youngest daughter, Lisa Crystelle Rotenberger. Beverly is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, David L. Nixon and children, Tamra (Charlie) O’Hara, Lori (Randy) Brock, Scott (Kathy) Nixon, Brad (Karen) Pope, and Michael (Sharon) Nixon, along with 11 grandchildren and so many adopted family and friends that were near and dear to her heart. She was an only child, and every dear friend was a brother or sister she never had. What a hoot she has been in all our lives. Beverly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved life and all the many people in her life, from lifelong friends or those she just met and everyone in between. She loved getting to know everyone personally, sharing love, laughter, and many jokes, making those around her laugh right along with her. Beverly always put a smile on your face and brightened your day. Life was never dull when Beverly was in your company. Beverly met her loving husband, David, in 1972 through PWP “Parents without Partners” and within just a few short months they married and blended their 2 families of 6 children into one, and enjoyed a family life of love, joy, laughter, and many adventures in between. In 2022 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Along with those very busy years of raising 6 children, Beverly devoted her life to her community as a consummate volunteer, always available with her time, expertise and compassion. She served as director of the Richmond Indiana Area Rose Festival, the Richmond Indiana Bicentennial Celebration, helped to create and open the Centerville-Abington Senior Center, was President of the Indiana Needle Guild Chapter, and co-chaired with her husband David, the Centerville Indiana Bicentennial Celebration. Beverly was a dedicated Scout Master’s wife and mother, assisting David and her sons with their troop outings and scouting achievements over the years. Beyond her family that meant the world to her, she loved to travel to the Caribbean, scuba dive, and travel to the National Parks. She enjoyed many years in South Texas on the Sweden Ranch with family, friends, and many critters. As if she wasn’t busy enough, she loved to ‘stitch’, from making clothes for her daughter’s, including everything from prom dresses to cheerleading outfits, to festival costumes. Beverly continued her love of art and crafts, creating countless cross stitch, needlepoint, and any and every kind of stitching imaginable, into works of art that have been and will be enjoyed for generations. Her only concern is what is to come of all her unfinished pieces and no doubt she is stitching in Heaven. Beverly was a dedicated member of the Union Congregational Church in Avon Park, where she enjoyed playing the bells during Sunday service. When they finally retired to Reflections Park Retirement Community in Avon Park, she continued her mission as a volunteer whenever she was called upon. She will be deeply missed and loved for an eternity by everyone who knew her. Visitation for Beverly K. Nixon will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Breylinger officiating. Private entombment will be in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
