Dr. Clarence G. "C.G." Clarkson

RICHMOND, Ind. – Dr. Clarence G. “C.G.” Clarkson, age 91, of Richmond, Indiana, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Reid Health. Born June 17, 1925, in North Vernon, Indiana, to Chesley and Dorothy Neeley Clarkson, C.G. moved to Liberty, Indiana, in 1953 and to Richmond in 1965. He graduated from North Vernon High School in 1943, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Butler University in 1949, and received his M.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1953. C.G. served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Wayne-Union County Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Society, and was a former Treasurer and President of the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians. C.G. was awarded the Lester D. Bibler Award in August of 1998 for his role in the development of family medicine in Indiana, the Indiana Academy of Family Physician Award on July 27, 1994, and the Paul S. Rhoads Humanity in Medicine Award in 1991. He was also a member of Central United Methodist Church. C.G. enjoyed being a pilot, photography, gardening, and traveling, especially to New Orleans. He dedicated his life to his patients. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Olga Smith Clarkson of Richmond; children, Dr. James (Maggie) Clarkson of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Deborah (Charles) Cromis of Hardinsville, Kentucky, Dr. John Clarkson of Liberty, Indiana, Julia Magnan of Richmond, Alan Weber of Anderson, Indiana, and Christy (Kyle) Reagan of Richmond; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Zebell; and brother, Russell Clarkson. Visitation for Dr. Clarence G. “C.G.” Clarkson will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Curtis Banker officiating.
