Gordon L. Riddle

RICHMOND, Ind. – Gordon L. Riddle, age 72, of Richmond, Indiana, died Monday, June 3, 2024. Born November 22, 1951, to Gordon E. and Ida Jane Shewman Riddle, Gordon was a lifelong resident of this community. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1970, received a B.A. from Ball State University in 1974, and later, his Master’s and Principal’s license. Gordon taught Photography and Industrial Arts at Northeastern Jr./Sr. High School in Fountain City, IN and Charles A. Beard Corp. in Knightstown, IN for over 36 years to middle school and high school students. He was an active member the Rose City Camera Club for years, owned his own wedding photography business and had masterful woodworking skills. In his role as dad, Gordon coached his daughters in softball each summer, chauffeured his girls to day camps, sports, dance, and more. He photographed each daughter’s wedding and built custom furniture as requested and, sometimes, designed by his daughters. Gordon enjoyed all things The Beatles, cars (especially Pontiac Fieros), turning wood bowls, riding his lawn mower, 70’s Guys Luncheons and watching RHS boys’ basketball. If you were one of Gordon’s friends, his favorite pastime was talking with you. Survivors include his wife, Karynn G., Roach, whom he met when they both worked at Richmond State Hospital; daughters: Arin (Jason) Sloan of Copley, OH and Allison (Matthew) Clemens of Valparaiso, IN; grandsons, Gregory, Benjamin, William, Paxton and Archer. Gordon also leaves behind special friends: Paul and Fran Bresher, Paul and Jan Jordan, Greg and Rita Coulter, Rodger and Terry Wright, and Jerry Toschlog. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Gordon L. Riddle will be from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Earlham Cemetery.
