RICHMOND, Ind. –Heather Lynn Walters April 19, 1976 – July 4, 2024 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Heather Lynn Walters on July 4, 2024. A mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and an accomplished nurse and caregiver, Heather was a victim of a senseless shooting; she was just 48 years old. Heather was born on April 19, 1976, in Richmond Indiana, to Tauni and Jack Walters. She spent much of her childhood in Richmond, except for the 12 years (1979-1991) she spent in Milford, Massachusetts, where she attended Milford Elementary and Middle Schools, was a multi-sport athlete and Pop Warner cheerleader, and developed close friendships. Heather graduated from Richmond High School (Class of 1994) and went on to study at Purdue University. Always committed to caring for others, she furthered her studies at Ivy Tech College, where she graduated summa cum laude, and obtained her licensure as an LPN and RN. Heather dedicated her professional life to healthcare. She spent most of her career working in Indianapolis, where she also raised her beautiful family. Over the past 10 years, she worked as a Nurse Clinical Liaison for Community Health Services in Indianapolis. A cherished mother, grandmother, partner, daughter, and sister, Heather is survived by her adored children, Whitney Walters (25), Trae Wilks (24), Bryan Potter (24), Julien Smith (18), and Zoey Smith (16); grandchildren, Lennox Wilks (3) and Rilah Wilks (4), Harlow Walters-Steele (2) and Aubriella Walters-Steele (11 mos.), and Renn Potter (3), who she loved beyond measure; partner, Tyree Smith; her mother, Tauni Walters, and Jim Pittman, Tauni’s fiancé; her sister, Robyn Walters Tas, and brother-in-law, Robert Tas; and a large extended family of relatives and friends - all who love her dearly. Heather was preceded in death by her father, Jack Walters; brother, Jeffrey Walters; paternal grandparents, Woodrow Wilson Walters, and Sarah Bernice Walters; maternal grandparents, Elmer and Mary Bledsoe; paternal uncle and aunts, Mary Duncan, Donald Walters, Phyllis Hood, and Peggy Boyd; and maternal aunt, Cherlyn Smith. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 11 AM at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Doan & Mills.
