Norbert J. Moeller

RICHMOND, Ind. – Norbert J. Moeller, age 89, of Richmond, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born October 2, 1921, in Greensburg, Indiana, to John and Dora Hellmich Moeller, he had lived in Richmond since 2000. Norb was a 1939 graduate of Greensburg High School. He graduated from Purdue University in 1943 with a degree in animal science and did post-graduate work at the University of Wisconsin. Norb was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. Norb worked for Kraft Foods for five years. Then he joined the Purdue faculty as an Extension Dairyman. Norb retired after 30 years as a Professor of Dairy Science, and during his last eight years was in charge of the research herd. After retirement, he remained active in agriculture as a Herd Evaluator for the American Breeders Service. Norb was very active in 4-H throughout the state in dairy judging. He wrote many books and pamphlets on the care of dairy cattle. Norb was Secretary/Treasurer of the Indiana State Dairy Association for 25 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Norb was an avid gardener, enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Julia Goodwin Moeller; children, David (Sandra) Moeller of Glenwood, Indiana, Linda (Norman) Cooney of Florida, Cathy (Tom) Barth of Richmond, Maryann (Peter) Monfiletto of Colorado, and Patrick (Jessica) Moeller of Lafayette, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Henrietta (Rea) Carroll of Osgood, Indiana and Marita Cherry of Greensburg, Indiana; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Phillip Moeller; great-granddaughter, Erica Hummer; and brothers, Walter, Maurice, John, and Robert Moeller. Visitation for Norbert J. Moeller will be from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 815 West Main St., Richmond. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at noon on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Todd Riebe officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
