Robert L. Bowen Jr.

RICHMOND, Ind. – Robert L. Bowen Jr., age 78, of Richmond, Indiana, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 8, 2017, doing what he loved best, playing golf with his buddies at Highland Lake Golf Course. Born November 17, 1938, in Richmond, Indiana, to Robert L. and Esther Alice Studt Bowen Sr., Bob was a life-long resident of this community. He graduated from Boston Jr./Sr. High School. Bob served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Bowen Oldsmobile GMC, after taking over the business from his father in the late 1960s. Upon retiring from the car business in 1983, Bob operated Bowen’s Hillcrest Farms. He formerly served on the Wayne County Council, Kuhlman Center Building Committee, and the Wayne County Fair Board and was a former director of the American Maine Anjou Association. Bob was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He was an avid golfer, active in the cattle business, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rea Ann Dickey Bowen of Richmond; daughter, Susan (Dan) Heyob of Hagerstown, Indiana; sons, David (Kristi) Bowen of Mason, Ohio, and Doug (Sharon) Bowen of Lynn, Indiana; grandchildren, Blaine Bowen, Morgan Bowen, Craig Heyob, Dustin Tincher, and Brooke Bowen; sisters, Marla Graybill and Debra Williams; uncle, Kent Bowen; all of his golf buddies; and his beloved dog, Mac. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Robert L. Bowen Jr. will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at First English Lutheran Church, 2727 East Main Street, Richmond with Pastor John Walker and Pastor Chip Belanga officiating. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Help The Animals, Inc., P.O.
