Robert Spotts

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Robert A. Spotts, age 80, formerly of Richmond, died Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC in Indianapolis. Born February 5, 1931, in Richmond, to Robert Victor and Catherine Marie Rickels Spotts, he graduated from Centerville High School and earned an Associate Degree in Engineering from Purdue University. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an Engineer with Wayne Works and worked at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge. Bob was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, and Stephen Ministries at Chapel Hill. Survivors include his significant other and best friend, Mary Ann Cates; children, Debra (Andrew) Blum of Lakeport, California, Catherine Sutera of Indianapolis, William A. (Barb) Spotts of Centerville, Gary R. (Lisa) Spotts of Webster, Michael D. Spotts of Columbus, Ohio, Debbie (Larry) Hunt of Beech Grove, Indiana and David (Kimberly) Cates of Syracuse, Indiana; nineteen grandchildren, Michael, Katherine, and Christine Blum, Nicole Williams, Shane and Travis Spotts, Eric, Jordan, and Reanna Burdette, Angela Kelley, Beth Sheffer, Jason Cruse, Savanna and Hannah Wolf, Cameron Spotts, J.R. and Jeremy Cates, Mikhail Whyde, and Casey Mathisen; ten great-grandchildren, Luke, Taylor, Gabriella, Shelby, Gwyneth, Hayden, Allyssa, Conner, Isaiah, and Preston; sister, Janice Orsborn of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jean Spotts, who died November 15, 1998; sister, Jeannine Cones; and brother, James Spotts. Visitation for Robert A. Spotts will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Biggs officiating. Entombment will be in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum. There will also be a Memorial Service in Indianapolis at 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 963 Girls School Road, Indianapolis, Indiana.
