William R. "Bill" Niersbach

William R. “Bill” Niersbach, age 86, of Richmond, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born December 20, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Catherine Murray Niersbach, Bill lived in this community most of his life. He graduated in 1944 from Richmond High School and was a 1991 graduate of Earlham College. Bill served in the United States Army. He began his radio career in high school at WKBV before moving to Fort Wayne and joining radio station WOWO. Bill returned to Richmond and worked again at WKBV where he broadcasted his “Breakfast with Bill” show from his home for 40 years. He retired in 1993 as President and owner of the Patti Insurance Agency. Bill was a past-President and 60 year member of the Richmond Noon Kiwanis Club. He served as President of the State of Indiana Independent Insurance Agents Association and the Richmond Independent Insurance Agents Association. Bill was a board member of over 50 years at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wayne County, and a board member of the Reid Hospital Foundation and St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. He was a life-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church and very involved with the Circle U Help Center. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth Patti “Becky” Niersbach; children, Gretchen (Bob) Murray of New Jersey and William R. “Rick” (Karen) Niersbach Jr. of Richmond; grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Olson of New York, David (Katie) Niersbach of Virginia, Rob (Kate) Murray of Pennsylvania, and Meghan Murray of Australia; 4 great-grandchildren; nephew, Quentin (Amy) Vaughan of California; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marguerite Catherine Vaughan; and brother, Joseph “Junnie” Niersbach Jr. Visitation for William R. “Bill” Niersbach will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 710 North A Street, Richmond with Father Kevin Morris and Father Todd Riebe officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
