Alice Belle Jennings

LA GRANGE, Ill. – Alice Belle Jennings, age 83, of La Grange, Illinois, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 27, 1931, in Richmond to Walter and Colleene Bertram Stikeleather, she lived in Richmond until retiring 16 years ago. Alice then lived in Boston, Massachusetts, followed by Evansville, Indiana, before moving to the Chicago area six years ago. Alice lived most of her life in Richmond. She retired from ALCOA and then worked at Veach’s Toy Store and County Market before fully retiring in 1999. Alice was a strong, loving mother and grandmother who inspired her children through her tireless work ethic and belief that we should help those less fortunate. She loved spending time at the ocean, was an avid reader of biographies, gardened and nurtured her houseplants, passionately followed current news events, and cared for her family. Alice will be greatly missed. She is survived by five of her six children, Victoria (William) Winters of Milton, Indiana, Marlene Ross of Richmond, Carol Gray of Richmond, Jon (Amy) Jennings of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Elizabeth White of La Grange, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, Marcia Winters, Susan Rodriguez, Lisa Huntington, Barbara (Kevin) Johnson, Stacy White, Stephen (Kelley) White, Bobby Gray II, Amy Gray, Stuart (Kelly) Fisher, Jason (Samantha) Siders, Kira (Eric) Young, Megan White, and Abigail Jennings; 23 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; son, Dennis Siders; son-in-law, Bobby Gray; two brothers, Donald and Robert Stikeleather; and two sisters, Betty Gardner and Norma Orbaugh. Visitation for Alice Belle Jennings will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
