Ann "Sheila" Wissler

RICHMOND, Ind. -Ann “Sheila” Wissler, age 92, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Friends Fellowship Community. Born August 1, 1931 in Liverpool, England, where she was raised, to Frank and Kathleen Harding Cannell. Sheila was evacuated to Wales during World War II. She came to the United States after marrying her husband of 70 years, Richard “Dick” Wissler, in Liverpool. She attended Padgate Teachers College and received her masters from Ball State University. Sheila was a teacher for over 40 years in Milton and Richmond. Most of those years were teaching 2nd grade at Starr School. Sheila was a longtime member of First English Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, and was active in Civic Theatre for many years, acting, directing and stage managing. She served as a volunteer at the RCA Tennis tournaments in Indianapolis and the Wayne County Tourism Bureau, and worked with Disney World during the Pan Am Games. Her hobbies included playing volleyball, tennis and traveling. Sheila was a huge sports fan and was a loyal follower of the Cincinnati Reds, Indiana Pacers, Richmond Red Devils sports teams, and the Richmond Roosters and Richmond Jazz. But her favorite activity was cheering on her many grandchildren in their various activities. Survivors include daughter, Debbie ( Mike) Witt, of Heltonville, Indiana; son, Paul (Beth) Wissler, of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Vickie (Ron) Lee, of Brookville, Ohio; grandchildren, Craig Witt of Chicago, Illinois, Heather (Sam) Owens of Kennesaw, Georgia, Sean (Haley) Witt of Gosport, Indiana, Sherry (Jay) Holland of Brookville, Ohio, Shanda Lee of Englewood, Ohio, Shannon ( Adam) Kendig of Arcanum, Ohio, Shavonne (Ben) Smart of Phillipsburg, Ohio, Stephanie Brewer, of Florida, Erin Wissler (Harrison) Gerdes of Iowa City, Iowa, Kevin Wissler of Denver, Colorado, and Maura Wissler (fiancé Eric Prodoehl) of Hales Corners, Wisconsin; 15 great¬grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Cox of South Surrey, British Columbia; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, David Wissler; sisters Kathleen Burrows, Maureen Stuart, Barbara Cannell; brothers William Cannell and Peter Cannell; and two nieces, Annette Estep and Sherry Etheridge. The family would like to thank AseraCare Hospice and Friends Fellowship for their excellent care of Sheila. Memorial visitation for Sheila Wissler will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at First English Lutheran Church, 2727 East Main Street, Richmond. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at First English Lutheran Church with Pastor Chip Belanga officiating. Private entombment will be in the First English Lutheran Church Columbarium.
