Anna Dean Maples

RICHMOND, IN - Anna Dean Maples, 89, of Richmond, IN. was welcomed home as she entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 28, 2024, while in the care of Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born Dec. 8, 1934, in Clay Co, TN, to Carvell and Odessa “Dessie” Hummel, Anna lived most of her life in Richmond, IN. She grew up in rural Tennessee with her seven siblings, five brothers and two sisters. Growing up with 5 brothers on a farm made her a bit of a tomboy who loved riding horses. Anna graduated from Draughons Business College in Nashville and later moved to Richmond, Indiana where she worked at Knollenberg’s Department Store. It was in Richmond where she met and married Lester Maples on Nov. 24, 1974. Anna then began her life as a pastor’s wife, which she enjoyed and devoted over 50 years ministering alongside her husband. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Richmond. Anna also worked for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed helping others. She was a caring and devoted sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and neighbor who deeply loved her family, church family and friends. Anyone who knew Anna knew that she was true to her word, true to her family and true and faithful to her Lord and Savior. 2 Timothy 4:7 sums up her devoted life. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith.” Anna is survived by sisters, Genell Jones of TN., and Susan Eversole of KS.; children, Linda (Kris) Wolski of Richmond, IN., Lois Antley of Shelbyville, IN, John (Debbie) Maples of Martinsville, IN., and Janice (Mark) Shaver of Centerville, IN.; 12 grandchildren, Madeline and McKeon Tanner, Krista Flood, Ron Shaffer, Jr., Wade, William and Wesley Baldwin, Emily Maples Davis and Johnny Maples, Danny, Chris and Steven Shaver; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many friends. Anna was preceeded in death by her parents; husband, Lester Maples; daughter, Carole Tanner; and brothers, Freeman, Waymon, Carlos, Norman and James Hummel. Visitation for Anna Maples will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7th at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, Indiana. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Doan and Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, IN. with Pastor Curt Nies, Pastor John Maples and Emily Maples Davis officiating.
