Charles L. Killen

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Charles L. Killen, age 82, of Centerville, left his lifelong home of Centerville to be with his Lord Wednesday, January 7, 2009. He was born March 27, 1926, in Centerville to George L. and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Worley Killen. Charles owned and operated Killen’s Service Center in Centerville since 1957. He still held a Master Certified Technicians Certificate from the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence. Charles enjoyed camping for many years with his family and friends and was a member of Good Sams Club. Charles was a member of Centerville Christian Church, the Centerville Lions Club for 50 years and was chairman of the Lions Club Sports and Hobby Show for four years. He was a member of the Centerville Hiram Lodge 417 of Free and Accepted Masons for 50 years and a 32nd Degree member of the Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite. Charles was involved in Centerville Music Boosters in the 1960’s and was parade chairman for the Centerville Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. He was involved in various Centerville Merchant organizations. Charles was a present member of Promote Centerville, Archway Days for 18 years and involved with Christmas in Centerville. He was instrumental in Centerville opening their doors to the 2008 Model-T Party. Charles was a member of the Centerville Fire Department for 28 years of which 20 he served as Fire Chief. He was a Certified Master Fire Fighter and instrumental in upgrading the Fire Department equipment and building, and the construction of the new fire station in 1980. Charles was a Past President of the Wayne County Firemens Organization. Survivors include his son, Gary Killen and wife Mary of Centerville and his daughter, Pam (Killen) Lamb-Johnson and husband Terry Johnson; grandchildren, Bruce Killen and wife Sherri, Amy (Killen) Schumann and husband Bobby, Molly (Metcalf) Hampton and husband Bill, Kristin (Johnson) Worden and husband Bryan, Anthony Johnson and wife Diana, and Michelle (Johnson) Wolfe; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Julian, Brianna, Nate, Noah, Bryce, Amanda and husband Travis, Billy, Tabitha, Jacob and Ashley; nieces and nephews and special friends, Clint and Brent Wolfe and many more friends, too numerous to list. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, JoAnn Killen whom he married November 21, 1945, and died January 8, 1994. The couple was lovingly referred to as “Moe and Joe.” He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Brent Lamb; and siblings, Irene, Harold, Roy, Jim Killen and Bernice White. Visitation for Charles L. Killen will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009, at Centerville Christian Church, 111 North Morton, Centerville, with a Masonic Service and Scottish Rite Service at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10 at Centerville Christian Church with Pastor Rick Alvey officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main St., Centerville, is in charge of arrangements.
