Curtis A. Gilmore

ABINGTON, Ind. – Curtis A. Gilmore, age 80, of Abington, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at his home with his family by his side. Born March 20, 1928 in Richmond to Frank and Faye Rock Gilmore, he was a life-long resident of Wayne County. He was a 1947 graduate of Richmond Senior High School. Curtis served in the U.S. Air Force. He earned his B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1958 and a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering in 1961. Curtis retired as an Industrial Engineer after 16 years from Belden. He worked for over 15 years as plant engineer at Wayne Works. Curtis was an Elder, Deacon, Trustee and active member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was the first Fire Chief, training officer and retired member of the Abington Fire Department. He was a State Instructor for the Indiana State Fire School. Curtis was past President and former board member of the local American Heart Association, Interfaith Housing and Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of the Society of Mechanical Engineers. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Judy Knight Gilmore; four children; Kay Lee and her husband, John of Lexington, Kentucky, Jay Gilmore and his wife, Laurie of Dayton, Ohio, Lynn Baldwin of Abington and Marcy Shook and her husband Rick of Centerville; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three on the way; one sister, Clara Knight and her husband, Richard of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathleen Clopp and Patricia Ford; and two infant siblings. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1004 North A Street, Richmond with Rev. David Layman and Rev. Eldon Harzman officiating and military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. There is no public visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
