David Eugene "Dave" Olt

RICHMOND, Ind. – David Eugene “Dave” Olt, age 85, of Richmond, Indiana, departed this life and world at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Reid Health. Born August 26, 1932, in Richmond, Indiana, to John A. and Elsie Marie Petry Olt, David’s family lived in Richmond for four years before moving to a farm in Preble County, Ohio. He spent his boyhood and younger years in Ohio and was a 1952 graduate of Jackson High School in Campbellstown, Ohio. After graduation, David worked at Ralston Purina in Richmond for five months and then at Jackson High School for almost six years. In 1958, he began working at the Richmond State Hospital Power Plant as a “fireman” for six months and then as an operator for 35 ½ years. David earned a certificate of completion in power plant utilities operations from the National Association of Power Engineers, Inc. In 1962, he moved back to Richmond where he retired from the Richmond State Hospital in 1994, after 36 years of service. David was baptized at the Richmond Church of the Brethren in 1942 by Rev. Edward Norris. He went to the Church of the Brethren in Eaton, Ohio, for nine years while living in Ohio. David gave his mother, father, grandma, and grandpa, along with his Sunday school teachers, the credit for teaching him to live a good life to make Heaven his home. In 1966, he met a 12 year old boy named, Carl Adams. In October 1967, Carl invited David to come to Truth Tabernacle Church, where on December 3, 1967, David was baptized in the Name of Jesus by Rev. Robert L. Coffey Jr. Survivors include his sister, Madelaine F. Rummel of Richmond; brother, Kenneth L. Olt of Wasilla, Alaska; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; cousins; and his friends and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for David Eugene Olt will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Doan & Mills with Rev. Robert Coffey III officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery in Eaton, Ohio.
