Doris Ann Lorton

RICHMOND, Ind. – Doris Ann Lorton, age 87, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, January 14, 2018, at The Forum at the Crossing in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born September 22, 1930, in New Castle, Indiana, to Cecil and Ruth Keeler Crim, Doris moved to this community in 1960 with her husband, Henry. She graduated from Mt. Summit High School. Doris retired from Cinram in 2009, at the age of 78, after working for the record company (formerly known as Mercury Records, Phillips Recording, PRC Recording, and PRC Tape Co.) for 41 years. She very much enjoyed working and keeping busy. Doris and Henry enjoyed traveling, including many trips to Florida; eating out; bowling; and spending time on vacation with their granddaughters, often times to Disney World. She was always ready for a new adventure and Henry never hesitated to go along! Doris was an avid league bowler for over 60 years and spent many years traveling to state and national women’s tournaments. She often served as a league secretary and coach for junior bowlers. Doris was always there for her family, taking care of Henry for several years while he battled Alzheimer’s disease. She was especially devoted to her two granddaughters, teaching them card games, board games, and just being Grandma. Doris loved her trips to casinos and was always looking for an opportunity to get in the car and have fun, fun, fun. Survivors include her daughter, Julie (Alan) Rowland of Indianapolis; granddaughters, Sara (Austin) Hauger of Indianapolis and Christina Rowland of Davenport, Florida; brother, Jerry Crim; niece; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Henry Lorton Jr., who died on August 18, 2011; son, Brad Lorton; and parents. The family sincerely appreciates all of the caregivers who have spent many hours with Doris during her short time at The Forum at the Crossing in Indianapolis. Visitation for Doris Ann Lorton will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor John H. Hollis officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
