Dorothie M. "Dottie" Hall

RICHMOND, Ind. - After a long life, filled with family and service, Dorothie M. “Dottie” Hall passed away on February 3, 2021, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born in Canada on March 13, 1926, Dorothie and her family moved to Detroit when she was three. While in high school she met Webster “Web” Hall, her husband of 72 years. After graduating from Royal Oak High School in 1944, Dorothie put herself through four years at Albion College, where she graduated in 1948 with a degree in education and library science. Dorothie’s life revolved around education, service, and particularly family. She constantly encouraged and supported the education of her children and grandchildren, starting with reading to her infant children, moving on to editing high school and college papers and giving unwavering support for advanced degrees. Web and his beloved Doff (his long-time name for her) partnered in raising their children and creating a warm and loving home together. During more than seven decades of marriage, Dorothie and Web enjoyed quiet time together, travel with family, flying across the country in their small plane, and multiple world-wide adventures. In addition to being life-long partners, she was an integral part of Webster Hall, Inc. where she ran the business side of the operations. Dorothie believed in giving back and actively supported the Boys and Girls Club; P.E.O., Chapter AU; and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for many years. She was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church where she contributed to innumerable programs to make Richmond a better place to live. In her spare time, Dorothie loved playing bridge, going to Forest Hills, and collecting English ceramic cottages. Family was her greatest joy. Being with Web and her family and supporting her family through all of life’s changes was central to her life. The cookie jar was always full and the house welcoming to all. She was never happier than when spending time with her family. Dorothie treasured notes and pictures from grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While she will be deeply missed, she will not be forgotten. Dorothie is survived by her husband, Webster, and their three children, Linda (Charles) Borrenpohl of Tetonia, Idaho, Ralph Hall of North Oaks, Minnesota, and Pam (Andrew) Howard of Loveland, Colorado. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Krista (Craig) Lenzmeier, Craig (Teresa) Borrenpohl, Tracy Braun (Elizabeth Adams), Mike Braun, Stephanie Hall (John Koolage), Diane Hall, Emma Howard-Young (Jordan), Natalie Howard, and Lauren Howard and eight great-grandchildren. Dorothie was predeceased by her parents, H.V. and Lillian Harding; brother, Harold (Marion) Harding; and sister, Queenie (Richard) Risser. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, services for Dorothie M. “Dottie” Hall will be private with burial in Earlham Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Friends Fellowship Community in the future when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
