Dorothy "Dot" Jarecki

RICHMOND, Ind. – Dorothy “Dot” Jarecki, age 89, of Richmond, joined her soul mate of 62 years, Dr. Arthur “Art” Jarecki in Heaven on Sunday, April 19, 2015. She was born on October 13, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to Frank and Anastasia Swiderski. Dot was a graduate of Waller High School in Chicago, Illinois. She met the love of her life, Art Jarecki, who she affectionately called Dreamboat, while she was working at Wesley Memorial Hospital and he was a dental student at Northwestern University. Dot and Arthur were destined to marry after she was shot in the leg by a spent bullet from a Victory in Japan celebration on their second date. She was affectionately known as Mrs. J and helped her husband establish a private dental practice in Richmond. They provided gentle dentistry, to patients who they considered family for over 50 years. Dot was devoted to her family and was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was also lovingly called Nonny. She was passionate about righting wrongs and giving selflessly to improve the lives of others. Her life was a living testimony to these ideals. Dot was always active in the PTO and involved in the schools her children attended. She and Art were members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where Dot served as St. Paul’s representative to the Interfaith Housing Corporation from 1998-2000. In addition to her strong faith, Dot was committed to the political process. She was active in the Democratic Party and enjoyed working on several successful campaigns. Survivors include her children, Barbara Van Pelt, Margot Jarecki, Jeff Jarecki, Joel (Wendi) Jarecki, and Amy Jarecki; grandchildren, Lori (John) Juerling, Kelly (Matt) Bomba, Bo (Carrie) Van Pelt, Jenna (Justin) Grimes, Jessica Jarecki, and Jaymie Jarecki; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Blake, and Davin Juerling, James and Mason Bomba, and Olivia, Trace, and Crew Van Pelt; and two special and faithful friends, Diane Jarecki and Melissa Toschlog. She was preceded in death by her husband Visitation for Dorothy “Dot” Jarecki will be from 4 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
