Dorothy Taylor

RICHMOND, Ind. – Dorothy “Dot” Taylor, age 89, of Richmond, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Friends Fellowship Community in the embrace of her daughter and son-in-law. Dot was born on April 7, 1920 in Lima, OH to Louis and Margorie Pepiot and grew up in Daytona Beach, FL. She spent her adult life in Chattanooga, Tennessee, until moving to Richmond, IN in 2000. She had a loving marriage with Bruce C. Bishop, a Chattanooga, attorney until he died in 1968. They raised three children together, Bruce, Beverly, and Leslie. Several years after Bruce’s death she married Clarence R. (Bill) Taylor. They enjoyed their retirement years with many travel adventures, loving family, and good friends on Signal Mountain. Dot was active in the Junior League, Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, and Hunter Art Museum, and numerous civic and social organizations. She was an avid tennis player and a prolific china painter. Bill died in 2000, the year Dot suffered a stroke and moved to Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, IN. She also was preceded in death by her daughter Beverly in 1998. Dot was known for her strong faith, encouragement to others, welcoming smile, and tenacity to overcome significant physical challenges. Dot is survived by her daughter Leslie Bishop, and son-in law Jeffrey Hyman who live in Richmond, IN; son Bruce Bishop who lives in Granbury, TX, her sister Gertrude Free from Holly Hill, FL; her step-daughters Gale Drew and Janet Saxon, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 28, at Friends Fellowship Community at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, Ind.
