Dr. Harold R. Sweet

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Dr. Harold R. Sweet, age 83, of Centerville, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Saxony Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born January 17, 1930, Colfax, Illinois, to Benjamin and Bertha White Sweet. Harold joined the Army and served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War. After returning from the war, he attended and graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis in 1957. After graduation he moved to Richmond, Indiana, where he practiced chiropractic at the Sweet Chiropractic Office on the west side of town for over 39 years. Harold was a member of the Centerville Christian Church, American Chiropractic Association, Indiana State Chiropractic Association, American Legion Harry Ray Post #65, Hiram Masonic Lodge #417, F.&A.M., and Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Linda VanDerMeulen Sweet, to whom he was married April 3, 1959; three sons, Gregory (Sherri) Sweet of Shelbyville, David (JoAnna) Sweet of Indianapolis, and Mark (Joanne) Sweet of Brownsburg; 12 grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Adam, Jonathan, Abby, Whitney, Shelby, Chelsea, Steven, Becky, Megan, and Jamie; mother-in-law, Frances VanDer Meulen; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Steven; parents; two sisters, Lois Hoof and Marie Spaulding; and six brothers, Gerald, Elwood, Lyle, James, Don, and Wilbur. Visitation for Dr. Harold R. Sweet will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Centerville Christian Church, 111 North Morton Avenue, Centerville, with Pastor Stephen Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
