Edward L. "Ed" Corley

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Edward L. "Ed" Corley, age 65, of Richmond, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Rosebud Village. Born September 29, 1949, in Richmond to William E. and Edna F. Bailey Corley, Ed lived in this area for most of his life. He was a 1967 graduate of Centerville High School and in 1971 he earned his B.A. degree from Wabash College. Ed attended Washington University from 1972-1973. He worked at AVCO in the lab from 1973-1974. Ed taught at the Switzerland County Schools, C R Coblentz Middle School, Eaton High School, and National Trail High School. He was a time keeper for track meets and a teacher sponsor for the yearbook. Ed was an Associate Professor of Education at Heidelberg University and was later selected to be the representative at Heidelberg University in Heidelberg, Germany, for the University Grand Founding Ceremony. He attended Miami University of Oxford earning his doctorate in 1998. Ed was a visiting professor for Miami University and Sinclair College. He travelled to China twice to teach conversational English to Chinese English language teachers. Ed was one of the top ten finalists in the state of Ohio for "Teacher in Space" on the Space Shuttle Challenger. He was a founding member of the Ohio Valley Civil War Association and enjoyed doing "Living History" demonstrations. Ed was active in recovering artifacts at the confederate prison on Johnson Island in Sandusky, Ohio. He was Past Master of both the Tiffin Lodge #77 F&AM in Tiffin, Ohio, and the Bolivar Lodge #82 F&AM of Eaton, Ohio, and a member of the Eaton Chapter #22 in Eaton, Ohio. Ed attended the Centerville Nazarene Church. Survivors include his sister, Brenda G. (Danny) Pearson of Richmond; several cousins including special cousin, Sue Tanner of Centerville, Indiana; aunt, Betty Jenkins of Richmond; uncle, Lee Bailey of Richmond; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Edward L. "Ed" Corley will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2015, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Joshua Cook officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with a special tribute rendered by the Ohio Valley Civil War Association.
