Eleanor Oberle

Eleanor Oberle, age 88, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, February 23, 2025, at home. Born October 16, 1936, in Richmond, Indiana, to Russell and Bernice VanEtten McManus, Eleanor lived in this community all of her life. She was a 1954 graduate of Richmond High School. Eleanor received her nursing degree from Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio and worked as an RN for Reid Memorial Hospital. Eleanor also worked for Leadership Wayne County, Contemporary Consulting, and Oberle & Associates. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Eleanor enjoyed volunteering for Holy Family Church Women’s Club. She taught “Boy-Girl Relationships and Reproduction” to high school age students of Holy Family Parish. Eleanor volunteered and served on many civic organizations, including United Way of Wayne County, Richmond Women’s Symphony Association, Whitewater Opera Company, The Greater Richmond Progress Committee, and Wayne County Drug Coalition. Eleanor also formerly served on the Dunn Center Board of Directors, was a Study Buddy, and was a member of The Wayne County Foundation Board of Directors. She also served on the Reid Hospital Foundation Board of Directors and was a member of Parish Nursing for Catholic Community since the inception of that program. Eleanor loved family time and traveling. She counted every moment and had a genuine zest for life. Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Oberle Bateman, and Rebecca “Becca” Oberle; son, John (Rebecca) Oberle; grandchildren, Christina, Ella, Joe, Chelsea, Chandler, and Chris; great granddaughters, Lily and Lila; and nephew, Ryan. She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Lee Oberle, who died in 2014; son, Daniel Oberle; parents; and sister, Sharon Clark. Visitation for Eleanor Oberle will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, IN. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Sengole Gnanaraj officiating. Burial will follow in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery.
