Emma L. Houser

MILTON, Ind. – Emma L. Houser, age 92, of Milton, Indiana, died Monday, February 1, 2021, at her home surrounded by her daughter, Karen Markwell, and son and daughter-in-law, David and Melanie Houser. Born July 16, 1928, in Eaton, Ohio, to Clarence and Margaret Taylor Wysong, Emma lived in Centerville, Indiana, most of her life. She worked at Alcoa, retiring after 20 years. Emma was a member of New Apostolic Church in Centerville. Emma was married to Carl J. Houser for 53 years. In their years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling together, being members of the Loyal Order of Moose 167, bowling, attending their church, and spending time with their many nieces and nephews, until they were blessed with two children of their own. Carl went to be with the Lord February 22, 2007. In recent years, Emma enjoyed working in her flower bed, feeding birds, and identifying the different types of birds. She also enjoyed working crypto quote puzzles and amazed her family at how quickly she could solve them. Emma had a special relationship with all animals. She fed and took care of many stray cats in the area, while also spoiling her own pets. Emma will be deeply missed by her beloved dog, Rocky, who she had for 13 years and her other pets. Emma showered love on all her family and had a special relationship with each and every one of them. She was a wonderful mother to David and Karen and was always there to help and guide them in life. They loved and appreciated her more than any words could describe. Emma was blessed with six grandchildren. David and his wife of 25 years, Melanie, had three children, Allison, David II, and Kellen Houser and Karen had three children, Jessica Connor, Jennifer Oliver, and Josh Markwell. She adored each of her grandchildren, and each child was blessed with many joyful memories of their grandmother. Emma was also blessed to meet nine of her great-grandchildren, Dalton, Dakota, Drake, Clayton, Hailey, Leviticus, Aubry, Haizley, and Oaklynn. Emma will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Carl J. Houser, who died February 22, 2007; parents; sister; and three brothers. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we regret to inform you that services for Emma L. Houser will be private with Rev. Mark Jauss officiating. Entombment will be in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
