Ermajean Katherine Braun Plasterer

RICHMOND, Ind. – Ermajean Katherine Braun Plasterer, age 93, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Friends Fellowship Community, where she had resided since 2012. Born April 11, 1931, in Martin County, Indiana, to Andrew and Rose Braun, Erma moved to Jasper, Indiana during her school years. She graduated from Jasper High School in 1949, enjoying Jasper’s state basketball title that same year. She then attended the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis, graduating in 1952. Erma met the love of her life, Ed, while they were both attending school, and they married after his graduation in 1954. Ed’s medical practice took the family to several cities across Indiana, before they finally settled in Richmond in 1961. In Richmond, Erma and Ed were active and involved members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Erma volunteered her time to a number of organizations over the years, including: the PTA at Vaile Elementary, where she served as President one year; the Board of Women’s Service League; Meals on Wheels; Reid Memorial Hospital, in various volunteer roles; as a Study Buddy; and as a Chapter One tutor. Survivors include her children, Stephen (Karen) Plasterer, David (Janice) Plasterer, Jeffrey (Sharol) Plasterer, and Lisa (Michael) LaPorte; grandchildren, Erica Plasterer, Bess Plasterer, Amanda (Jeff) Chapa, Alyson Plasterer, Bridget (Aaron) Roth, and Charles Plasterer; great-grandchildren, Sofie, Graham, Molly, and another on the way soon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward Plasterer in 2011; parents, Andrew and Rose Braun; siblings, Laverne Braun, Leo Braun, Cleo Braun, and Gleda Harder; many brothers and sisters in law who she loved dearly; and grandchildren, William Edward and Sara Elizabeth. Erma will be forever missed by her children, grandchildren, and large extended family, as well as those that have had the pleasure to know her over the years. She was a key part of the lives and values of her children and grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Friends Fellowship and at AseraCare Hospice, especially the nurses and team at the Courtyards for their care and concern for Erma and her visiting family members, and to her church family at St. Paul’s for their visits and support. Visitation for Ermajean Katherine Braun Plasterer will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 121 South 18th Street, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Lutherania Cemetery. Doan & Mills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
