Glen Marcus Starbuck

RICHMOND, Ind. – Glen Marcus Starbuck, age 93, of Richmond, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born May 4, 1921, in Randolph County, Indiana, he was the second of four children born to Sylvester and Mabel Addington Starbuck. Glen attended Huntsville, Indiana schools before serving four years in the United States Army during World War II. After basic training, he was stationed at Camp Hood, Texas (now Fort Hood) as an instructor in a tank destroyer school for two years, training tank companies from all over the United States. One of his most memorable military experiences was conducting a personal demonstration of a new tank destroyer for General George Marshall. He then volunteered for overseas duty and served in Britain, France, and Germany. Glen was an active member and volunteer of Central United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the American Legion Post 65 and the Belden 25-year club, and was a long-time volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He retired from Belden Manufacturing Company after 36 years. Glen is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Gene Thompson) McConnell of South Carolina and Shirley (Larry) Pippin of Richmond; one son, Scott (Carol) Starbuck of Richmond; grandchildren, Brian (Gina) McConnell, Sheri (Paul Thoren) Pippin, Brett (Carly) McConnell, Matt (Nicole) Pippin, Samantha Starbuck, and Steve Starbuck; seven great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and his beloved wife of 68 years, Esther Irene Davis Starbuck. The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the nursing staff, caregivers, and other employees of Friends Fellowship Community and to AseraCare Hospice for their compassionate care of their father. They would also like to offer a special thank you to their family friend and caregiver to their father and mother, Annie Stewart. Visitation for Glen Marcus Starbuck will be from 11 to 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Black officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Cemetery in Farmland, Indiana, with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
