Gordon Bringle

RICHMOND, IN – Gordon Bringle, age 98, of Richmond, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Friends Fellowship Community. He was born November 12, 1909, to Lawrence Jackson and Emma Elizabeth Bringle in New Salisbury, Indiana, and he was a 1926 graduate of New Albany High School. A resident of Richmond most of his life, he was owner/operator of Puckett’s Cleaners and also worked for Lingle Real Estate. Gordon joined the Richmond Kiwanis Club April 1, 1942. He served as the president of the club in 1957, and was Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis Rose Division in 1964. He received the Legion of Honor from Kiwanis for his years of service. He also received the Tablet of Honor, which honors individuals who have exemplified dedicated service to Kiwanis, their club, and their community. Gordon was a George F. Hixson Fellow of the Kiwanis International Foundation. For his devoted service to and through Kiwanis, a scholarship was named in his honor and given to a graduating senior from Richmond Senior High School. He was also a member of the Tarum Shrine and the Richmond Masonic Lodge 196. Gordon, along with his family, was active in Richmond Civic Theatre. His acting credits began in 1944 in Three’s a Family, and included his role as Matthew Harrison Brady in Inherit the Wind in 1973. He also served as President of Richmond Civic Theatre and on its Board of Directors. His life-long hobbies include gardening (particularly roses), fishing, connecting with family, and both domestic and international travel. Survivors include his wife, Marinetta Bringle whom he married July 12, 1973, in Richmond; daughter, Joan Bringle of Indianapolis; son, Robert Bringle and wife Rebecca of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Joshua Bringle and Kathryn Bringle; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Helen Bringle. A memorial service for Gordon Bringle will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008, at First Friends Meeting, 2010 Chester Blvd., Richmond, with Doug Gwyn officiating. There will be no public visitation. Doan & Mills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be a reception following the Memorial Service.
