Herbert Duane Lydick

Herbert Duane Lydick, age 83, of Richmond, died Monday, July 28, 2014, at Reid Hospital. Born July 9, 1931, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to Aubrey Eugene Joy and Celia Brett Neal Lydick, he had lived in Richmond since 1954. Herb served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force from December 30, 1948, to September 29, 1952. He worked for Commercial Motor Freight of Indiana for over 30 years. Herb retired from Convenience Store Distributing Company (CSDC) as Transportation Supervisor in 1996, after 14 years of service. He was also a volunteer tax preparer. Herb was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was an active member of his Sunday school class and American Legion Harry Ray Post #65. He was a former member of the GUTS Investment Club, Richmond Evening Optimist, and Bible Study Fellowship. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Herb was a man of faith, setting an example through his integrity, willingness to help others, and love of his family. Survivors include his daughter, Lynda Lou Lydick of Indianapolis, Indiana; sons, Dennis Gene (Leslie) Lydick of Virginia and David Scott (Beth) Lydick of Richmond; grandchildren, Carl (Sara) Lydick of Virginia, Christopher (Sarah) Lydick of Virginia, Robert (fianc', Sarah Gahagan) Lydick of St. Louis, Missouri, Michael Lydick of Richmond, and Andrew Lydick of Richmond; sister, Barbara Jane Jackson of Richmond; brother, Ralph Neal Lydick of Virginia; special family friend, Benita Meyer of Virginia; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lydick of Australia; nieces; nephews; aunt, Martha Monoskey of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania; cousins, including Barb Havens of Texas; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Ann Beroth Lydick who died February 19, 2011; parents; and brothers, Claire Eugene Lydick and John Allan 'Jackie' Lydick. Visitation for Herbert Duane Lydick will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. James Spon officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
