Hugh Dale Knarzer

RICHMOND, Ind. – Hugh Dale Knarzer, age 86, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away in the peace of his sleep Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Arbor Trace Exceptional Senior Living. Born September 29, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Herman Charles and Esther Elizabeth Knarzer, Dale lived in this community most of his life. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1950 and studied at Indiana Central College in Indianapolis before being drafted into the military. Dale served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers achieving the rank of Corporal. He then served a distinguished career with the Richmond Fire Department for 36 years, serving as Battalion Chief for 18 of those years. Dale and Dorothy were active members of First United Methodist Church. He was a selfless public servant, a loving father and grandfather, a true gentleman, and one of the most caring individuals one could meet. Dale thoroughly enjoyed trips out of town and traveling with his family, making sure to indulge in good food in the process. He had a life-long love and extensive knowledge of cars. Dale is survived by his wife Dorothy of 65 years. He was the loving father of Greg Knarzer and Kim Daggy and father-in-law to Jim Daggy. Dale was the ever-loving grandfather of Justin and his wife Amber and Jessica Daggy, the great-grandfather of Penelope Daggy and Jackson Gray, and the uncle to various nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Leister. Visitation for Hugh Dale Knarzer will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Chalk officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
