James Marshall "Jimi" Benge

RICHMOND, Ind. – James Marshall “Jimi” Benge, age 27, of Richmond, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at Reid Health, after a long battle with complications from a car accident in 2007. Jimi was born on April 30, 1988, in Richmond, Indiana, he lived most of his life in Richmond. While attending Temple Christian School in Connersville, Indiana, he played basketball and soccer. Jimi was a 2006 graduate of Lincoln High School where he excelled in basketball with the Lincoln Golden Eagles. One week before his accident, Jimi won the Fayette County 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. He had been an inventory control clerk at Reid Hospital. Jimi attended Calvary Baptist Church in Richmond and Higher Praise Worship Center in Connersville, Indiana. Just prior to his accident, he had given his heart to the Lord, Jesus Christ. His goal was to be a youth pastor, teaching God’s word. Jimi loved music and prior to his accident, he loved to play his guitars. God gave Jimi a smile that would melt the sun. You would never see him with a frown and he enjoyed playing jokes on friends and family. Jimi leaves behind a world of pain, sorrow, and suffering to enter into a place where the angels sing. The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, CNAs, and caregivers who loved and helped Jimi during his eight year journey. We would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Siegel and Dr. Vish. Survivors include his father and step-mother, Fornie and Sherri Benge of Richmond; mother, Barbara Selkirk Bari of Bloomington, Indiana; brother, Daniel Benge of Bloomington, Indiana; step-brother, David (Alicia) Winters of Richmond; devoted maternal grandparents, Bill and Margaret Selkirk of Richmond; several aunts and uncles; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bradley and Pearl Benge and Marvin and Sue Widau. Visitation for James Marshall “Jimi” Benge will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015, with additional visitation held one hour prior to the funeral from 10 to 11:00 a.m., at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor John Maples officiating.
