Janice M. Hitch

RICHMOND, Ind. – Janice M. Hitch, of Richmond, finished her walk through God’s Garden of Heaven on July 16, 2011. She was born January 24, 1939 to Arthur and Marie Wagner Cheesewright in their home located in Dana, Indiana. Janice graduated in 1957 from Dana High School, in Dana, Indiana and from Indiana State University in 1961 with a degree in Education. She later received her Master’s Degree from Ball State University. Janice taught at Vaile Elementary School (1961-1968) and later managed the Fine Jewelry Department for Elder Beerman Department Store, where she received her certification as a Diamond Appraiser from G.I.A. (1974-1990). She later sold advertising for Getting To Know You, a company out of New York City, and Insight Media, where she won many awards. Janice was a very active golfer being a member of Forest Hills Country Club, Highland Lake Golf Club, and Elks Lodge #649, where she served as Inner Guard and Chaplain for the Lodge. She loved playing golf and participating in all golf activities. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. Janice loved her Lord, husband, family, and many friends. Janice is survived by her husband, John L. Hitch, whom she married on October 9, 1999; brother, John (Jane) Cheesewright of Dana, Indiana; two step-daughters, Shannon Hitch of Idaho and Kelly (Tony) Basso of Michigan; six step-grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephew, Kristy (Marty) Fangman of Texas, Kay (Collins) Duke of Florida, and Kelly (Sherri) Cheesewright of Chrisman, Illinois; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Wohlfort, and her parents. Visitation for Janice M. Hitch will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Clark of Christ Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery.
