John Phillip Lindley Jr.

RICHMOND, Ind. – John Phillip Lindley Jr., sixty years old, of Richmond, Indiana, after a battle with cancer, while surrounded by family has gone home to his Lord on Friday, June 15, 2012. John was born in Marion, Indiana, on May 27, 1952, to his loving mother, Betty DeMott Lindley VanDyke and John Phillip Lindley. John was the loving husband of Lorie Lindley and father/step-father to a wonderful family. His sons are Jeff Lindley and family, Mandy Lough, Keegan, and Tayler Lindley, and David Lindley and wife Jenny Lindley and children Evan and Maddie. Both sons reside in Richmond. He was very proud of Jeff and David and the loving sons they have been. John also had four step-children with families: Sep and Allison Shoemaker and their children Tucker and Toby, Jessica and Anthony Phillips and their children Kyndall and Kyrienn, Chelsea and Justin Meinsen and their children Delanee and Gage, and youngest step-son, John Sheehan III. He and Lorie blended this amazing family of six children, their spouses, and ten grandchildren, and he has loved them all very big. John was a resident of Richmond for 54 years. He was a 1970 graduate of Richmond High School. He also attended Ivy Tech, graduating with honors and receiving his associate degree in Building Construction. He spent 38 years employed for the City of Richmond in different jobs from working in the Parks Department to Building Inspector to his final accomplishment as the Building Commissioner of the City of Richmond. He sat on the IABO Board for the State of Indiana. He was a loyal employee and has served Richmond well. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond, Fountain City Wesleyan Church, and The Well. He is preceded in death by his father, John Phillip Lindley and survived and missed by his mother, Betty VanDyke and two sisters, Janet Pelfree of Lafayette, Indiana, and Anne Haden of Glassboro, New Jersey. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, friends, and City of Richmond employees. Visitation for John Phillip Lindley Jr. will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Fountain City Wesleyan Church, 5600 U.S. 27 North, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Fountain City Wesleyan Church. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
