June Bittner Hyde

RICHMOND, Ind. – June Bittner Hyde, age 78, of Richmond, died Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Reid Hospital following a brief illness. Born June 10, 1929, in Richmond, Indiana, to Clifford and Louise Gerling Bittner, she was a lifelong resident of Richmond. June was a 1947 graduate of Richmond High School and attended Earlham College. She was a secretary for the United Way of Wayne County and later started Shades of Old Richmond, a custom lampshade business. She was active with the RHS class of 1947 reunion committees and for 20 years she enjoyed decorating her church, First English Lutheran, at Christmas time. June was an extremely creative home decorator and antique furniture refinisher. She enjoyed her circa 1845 home, which she and her husband Charlie restored, and where they have continued to live for the past 24 years. Above all, though, she was a loving, caring, thoughtful, generous person. Survivors include her husband, Charlie Hyde, to whom she was married in 1948; daughter, Terri Williams of Richmond; son, Chuck Hyde and his wife Lesli of Richmond; grandchildren, Brian Beau Williams and his wife Tiffany, Elizabeth Williams, Caitlyn Hyde, and Chuckie Hyde, all of Richmond; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Olivia Williams; sisters, Elvera “Tootie” Hyer and her husband Don of Green Valley, Arizona, and Pat Thompson of Indianapolis; nieces and nephews, including Bill Bagley and his wife Marla of Cincinnati, and Bonnie Spraker and her husband Gary of Niles, Michigan; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Theodore Garrrett; brother, Robert Bittner; granddaughter, Leslie Fannin; and son-in-law, Christopher Williams. Memorial service for June will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2007, at First English Lutheran Church, 2727 National Road East, Richmond, with Pastor Brian Derrer officiating. Entombment will be in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, IN.
