Laurel Anne Sherer

RICHMOND, Ind. – Laurel Anne Sherer, age 88, of Richmond, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born August 18, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to Gerhard Frederick and Lillian Muetze Koch, she had lived in this community since 1955. Laurel was the valedictorian of the 1943 class of Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated with honors from Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her license to be a Registered Nurse. Laurel worked at Illinois Research and Education Hospital and for Dr. Ley at Urological Care, Inc. She had been an active member of First Friends Meeting where she taught Sunday School. Laurel served Yolkfellow Luncheons and served in the Stephens Ministry Program. She was a Study Buddy at Crestdale Elementary School and a Brownie leader. Laurel also served the community in the Y’s Men’s-Women’s Club and in the Richmond Medical Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Kenneth E. Sherer to whom she was married on October 1, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois; children, Ann (John) Holzer of Richmond, Stephen (Paula) Sherer of Meridian, Idaho, Margaret (Richard Greene) Sherer of Portland, Oregon, Linda (Jim) Coppock of Cincinnati, Ohio, James (Lynda) Sherer of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Carolyn (Richard) VandenDolder of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest Lawrence (Ann) Koch of Evergreen Park, Illinois; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sherer of Richmond; nieces; nephews; and many friends. A Memorial Service for Laurel Anne Sherer will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014, at First Friends Meeting, 2010 Chester Blvd., Richmond, Indiana, with Pastor Alan Kolp officiating. Entombment will be in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
