Leon Thomas

RICHMOND, Ind. – It is with love that we announce the passing of Leon Thomas on August 18, 2024. Born March 20, 1935, in Winchester, Kentucky, to William Kelly and Alma Fox Thomas, Leon had lived in Indiana since he was an infant. He was a graduate of Williamsburg High School. Leon owned a masonry business, Thomas and Sons Construction, for many years and his workmanship for what he did was exemplary. He was a proud and passionate expert in his craft which he passed down to his two sons and grandson. Leon and his identical twin brother, Linn, were members of the Williamsburg High School basketball team where they were offered 12 scholarships. He also served in the Marine Corps before being honorably discharged. Leon enjoyed flying remote control airplanes. He and his late wife, Shirley, cared deeply for the property they owned together, making sure it always looked pristine. Leon attended bible study with Richmond Community of Faith Church when it was offered at Brickyard. Survivors include his children, Ronald Thomas, Rick (Lori) Thomas, and Sonya Ogiego; six grandchildren, Michelle (Jamie) Miller, Jessica (Jason) Carney, Brittany Thomas, Brandon (Blanca) Thomas, Briana Ogiego, and Chase Ogiego; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Linn (Debbie) Thomas and Bob (Sue) Thomas; half-sister, Lisa Thomas Jackson; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley Ann Thomas; mother, Alma Fox (Millard) Johnson; father, William Kelly (Linda) Thomas; and two sisters, Bonnie Stonebreaker and Caroline Sue Woods. Memorial visitation for Leon Thomas will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
