Marion J. Schweizer

RICHMOND, Ind. – Marion J. Schweizer, age 82, of Richmond, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Reid Hospital following a short illness. He was born September 19, 1926, in Fountain City to Albert and Miltrida Foster Schweizer. Marion left Fountain City High School to join the U.S. Army and then went on to serve in the Army Air Force. He played baseball for the Air Force and was the youngest player and also the only non-commissioned officer on the team. Marion was a career firefighter with the Richmond Fire Department. He was also a longtime employee of Graham Cleaners. He was a member of the VFW. His enjoyment came from watching sports, spending time with his family and doting on his dog, Abbie. Survivors include his wife of 61years, Martha Schweizer; daughter, Stephanie Joan Rinehart (Stan) of Richmond; son, Allen Lee “Butch” Schweizer of New Paris, Ohio; grandchildren, Chad Rinehart (Rhonda), Cari Rinehart, Ned Schweizer, Scott Schweizer (Mindy); great-grandchildren, Jessie and Jerica Glesson, Taylor Hamlin, Savana Kinder, Cerra Rinehart, Wylie, Wyatt and Brendall Schweizer and Kaitlyn Schweizer; special nephew, Jeff Schweizer; special family friend, Ben Kinder; sisters, Henrietta Horn (Harry), Opal Wright and June Rose Morman (William); brother, Harry Schweizer (Mabel); many nieces; nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ken, Traster and Edgar Schweizer; two infant brothers; one infant sister, and sister, Frances Butt; daughter-in-law, Donna Schweizer; and son-in-law, Mike Rinehart. Visitation for Marion J. Schweizer will be from1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Wright officiating. Entombment will be in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
