Martha Rose "Marty" Reid Metzger

Martha Rose “Marty” Reid Metzger was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Vern and Mildred Martin Reid, January 17, 1921, and she died June 30, 2008. Martha graduated in 1938 from Eaton School, Eaton, Ohio. She married Vearl Franklin Metzger on October 8, 1938, and he died October 26, 1993. Martha retired from the CR Coblentz School District cafeteria. She was a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star and a member of the New Paris Garden Club. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jack; her father in-law and mother-in-law, Edward J. and L. Maria Macy Metzger; sisters-in-law and their spouses, Helen E Metzger Hill and Ralph B. Hill and Mary F Metzger Ruschau and John T. Ruschau; son-in-law, Keith S. Gettelfinger and former son-in-law, Charles R. “Dick” Combs. Survivors include three daughters, Judith Kay Metzger, New Paris, Ohio, Macy Elaine Metzger, New Paris, Ohio, and Vearlene Rose Metzger Gettelfinger, Ireland, Ind. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Sue Combs McFadden and James “Gar” McFadden, son Jeremy McFadden, Richmond, Ind.; Brian Franklin Combs, New Paris, Ohio; Jan Gettelfinger Flynn and David Flynn, children Megan, Madison, Michael and Mitchell Flynn, Ireland, Ind.; Christopher and Danielle Cook Combs, children Ethan, Tristan and Thor Abelquist, New Paris, Ohio; Jo Ellen Gettelfinger Brecht and David Brecht, children Nathan, Corinne, and Adam Brecht, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Jill Gettelfinger Scherry and Dan Scherry, children Samuel, Sydney and Simon, Santa Claus, Ind.; Amy Rose Gettelfinger, Ireland, Ind. Martha leaves four nieces, Joy Hill Neilan, Tyra Hill Clark, Nancy Hill, Sherry Ruschau, their spouses and families; an aunt, Earlene “Pill” Macy; and several cousins. Martha was cremated and there will be no services according to her wishes. Interment will be in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, Ohio.
