Marvin G. Manis

RICHMOND, Ind. – Marvin G. Manis, age 91, of Richmond, died Friday, October 2, 2015, at Arbor Trace Exceptional Senior Living. Born June 1, 1924, in Lenoir City, Tennessee, to Mark and Edna Wright Manis, Marvin lived most of his life in Richmond. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Marvin worked as a postal carrier, retiring after 30 years. He attended First United Methodist Church. Marvin was a member of the American Legion Harry Ray Post #65, 50 year member of Webb Lodge No. 24, F. & A.M., the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Murat Shrine, and Richmond Tarum Shrine. He volunteered to drive children to the area’s Shriners Hospitals for Children. Marvin enjoyed having coffee and spending time with his friends and family. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara (Robert) Sharp of Florida; son-in-law, Harold Gillespie of Carmel, Indiana; grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Gillespie of Illinois, Kimberly Sharp of Florida, James Sharp of North Carolina, and Laura (Mark) Stevens of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Griffin, Grant, and Emma Gillespie, and Allan Stevens; nephew, Ronald Spears of Connersville, Indiana; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther J. Adams Manis, who died on February 11, 1997; daughter, Margaret Gillespie; parents; sister, Helen Spears; niece; and special friends and companions, Janice Dill and Rachel Bresher. Visitation for Marvin G. Manis will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Chaplain Edward R. McFarland officiating. Entombment will be in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
