Naomi Kaeuper

RICHMOND, Ind. – Naomi Kaeuper passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of Monday, May 2, 2016. A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was blessed with a full and active life centered in Richmond. Naomi drew strength from the Christian community into which she was born one hundred years ago, and faithfully participated throughout her life in the church, St. John Lutheran Church and First English Lutheran Church, and more recent decades in the Bible Study Fellowship. She loved nature and the out-of-doors, gardening, music and the embrace of her large family to which she was keenly attuned and devoted. To the end of her life she kept up a desire to learn and lively curiosity about the world. Born on a small farm on the edge of Richmond in 1915, Naomi Clara Erk attended local country and city schools. She graduated from Morton High School in 1932 and from the Richmond Business College in 1933. Her education was paid for by her mother, Gertrude, and father, Henry, from the proceeds of 24 acres during the height of the depression. She was employed by the F&N Lawn Mower Company and resigned in 1939 when she married her soulmate Fred ‘Ted’ Kaeuper, who died in 1981. After her children, Miriam and David were older, she returned to work first with the Coble Casket Company and then Dunham-Lehr before retiring and moving on to Reid Hospital as a volunteer for many years. She passed the last decade living in the loving home of her daughter, Miriam and her son-in-law, Allan Rosar. Survivors include her daughter, Miriam Rosar and son-in-law, Allan of Richmond; son, David Kaeuper and daughter-in-law, Brenda of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren and their spouses, Sarah Burnham (Mike), Carrie Sailer (Dan), Sharon Rexing (Greg) and Jolyon Bowman (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Laura, Henry, Abigail, Elizabeth, Andrew, Josh, Olivia, George, Sammie, Zoe and Zac; and nephews, Herb Kaeuper (Jill) and Jon Kaeuper (Louise). She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Fred ‘Ted’ Kaeuper, who died in 1981 and sister, Miriam Erk. Visitation for Naomi Clara Erk Kaeuper will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at First English Lutheran Church, 2727 East Main Street, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at First English Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
