Phillip Lyell Beam

RICHMOND, Ind. – Phillip Lyell Beam, age 75, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Reid Health. Born November 27, 1942, in Wayne County, Indiana, to Willard Lyell and Lacy Ellen Hobbs Beam, Phil was a 1960 graduate of Boston High School. He attended General Motors Institute and earned his MBA degree from Indiana University in 1988. Phil resided in Brownsburg, Indiana, and Pittsboro, Indiana, before returning to Richmond. He worked as an industrial engineer at General Motors and Allison Transmission for 35 years. Phil served on the Pittsboro Town Council and was a chaplain and coordinator of chaplains at Reid Health from 1999 – 2017. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Brownsburg and Hillcrest Baptist Church in Richmond. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Janice Eileen Crothers Beam; daughter, Sharon Eileen (Hymie) Valadez of Brownsburg; sons, Scott Phillip Beam of Wolcottville, Indiana, and Stuart Patrick (Todd Lang) Beam of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Kay (Kerry) Yencer of Albertville, Alabama, and Barbara Fay (Chris) Hines Beeson of Hagerstown, Indiana; brother, Robert Eugene (Pam) Beam of South Bend, Indiana; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Beam. Memorial visitation for Phillip Lyell Beam will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3469 Hillcrest Road, Richmond. Memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Pastor Martin Holman officiating.
