Pierce Marlin Markey

RICHMOND, Ind. - Pierce Marlin Markey, age 77, of Richmond, died Monday, December 19, 2011, in his daughter's arms at home. He was born July 19, 1934, in Richmond to Pierce S. and Donna Marie Coddington Markey. Pierce was a 1952 graduate of Jefferson High School, New Paris, Ohio. He lived in Wayne County most of his adult life. He joined the National Guard while he was in high school. Pierce served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1961 and was a proud member of the 25th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. He retired as Sgt. First Class from the 70th Division Army Reserves after serving from 1973-1989. He was an extruder operator at Belden for 32 years, retiring in 1993. Pierce served on the Centerville Volunteer Fire Dept. from 1981-1999 and was a bus driver for Centerville Schools. He was a member of the Belden 25-Year Club. Pierce loved his family and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Survivors include his wife, Dorotha Smith Markey; children, Deresa (Roger) Chappel of Richmond, Jeffrey (Vicki) Langley of Bryant, Ark., and Grethlyn (Darin) Riney of Richmond; grandchildren, Samuel Markey, Adam (Kara) Langley, Chris (Kelley) Chappel, Genika (Chris) Lucas, Sarah Langley, Paige Riney, Cassidy Riney, and Taylor Chappel; seven great-grandchildren; niece, Donna Sheppard; nephew, Steve Captain; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; one great-great-niece, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Florence Bess Markey; son, Michael A. Markey; grandsons, Daniel Markey and Mitchell Stevenson; great-grandson, Ethan Chappel; sister, Charlene Captain; and brother, Dean King. Visitation for Pierce Marlin Markey will be from 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2011, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with his son, Pastor Jeffrey Langley and Rev. James Girdley officiating.
