Robert D. Smoker

ABINGTON, Ind. – Robert D. Smoker, age 50, of Abington, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Reid Hospital. Born June 4, 1962, in Richmond, to Duane and Dorothy Wiggs Smoker, he lived most of his life in this area. He was a 1980 graduate of National Trail High School and a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College. Rob was a 10 year 4-H member and was in FFA. He was Director of Facilities at Ivy Tech Community College at Richmond and Connersville campuses for 27 years. Rob was trustee of the Abington Cemetery and served on the Abington Advisory Board. He was maintenance supervisor at King’s Plaza and he maintained the Abington and Doddridge Chapel cemeteries. Rob was a member of Christ United Church of Richmond, past member of the Abington Volunteer Fire Department, and past member of the Sheriff Mounted Patrol. Survivors include his wife, Georgia Isaacs Smoker, to whom he was married on July 25, 1988; son, David A. (Jenna) Smoker of Brazil, Indiana; daughter, Brittaney L. Worch of Richmond; grandsons, Wyatt and Weston Smoker of Brazil, Indiana; brother, Gail (Teresa) Smoker of Centerville; sister, Sharon (David) Stevenson of Cookeville, Tennessee; nephew, Jacob Stevenson of Cookeville, Tennessee; nieces, Sarah and Jessica Smoker, both of Centerville; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert Wiggs and Irene Baker, and paternal grandparents, Clifford and Mary Smoker. Visitation for Robert D. Smoker will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Doan and Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Doan and Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Abington Cemetery.
