Ruth E. Harris

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Ruth E. Harris, age 80, was called home on Sunday, July 12, 2009. She was born October 20, 1928, in Henry County, Ind., to Carlos E. and Helen I. Moffitt Land. Ruth was a 1947 graduate of Richmond High School. She had worked for Dr. Stragand and at Reid Hospital. Ruth was a member of Avco Wives Club, was a DeMolay Mother and was active with Job’s Daughters and Eastern Star. Ruth and Everett F. Harris Jr. were married October 15, 1949, and were blessed with five children. She was a very loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who made her family her life. Ruth enjoyed drawing and working crossword puzzles. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Jay Butler of Richmond, Renee and Lenny Sparks of Centerville; sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Mary Ann Harris of Richmond, David and Beverly Harris of Winchester and Mark and Marla Harris of Centerville; grandchildren, Clay Butler of Richmond, Gerad and Amanda Harris and their children, and Josh and Hayley Harris, all of Greens Fork, Millicent Harris of Gainesville, Fla., David and Nan Harris and their children, Keslyn, Corbin and Nolan of Winchester, Steven and Diane Harris and their son Benjamin of Winter Haven, Fla., Heather Harris of Santa Ana, Calif., Brandon Harris and sons Colin and Brayden of Richmond; brother and sister-in-law, Weldon and Virginia Land of San Antonio, Texas; sister-in-law, Patricia Mauger of Richmond; nieces and nephews, Christine Mauger and Ray Mauger, both of Richmond, Nancy Minor of Muncie, Ann Evans of Waco, Texas, Kathleen Brown of West Fairview, Pa., Lizbeth Garwood of Valparaiso, Jeff Brown of Hagerstown, Carol Sue Kellum, Steven Land, Sharon Simmons and Cindy Williams, all of Texas; special caregiver, Terra Butler of Richmond; special friend, Ron Alexander of Richmond. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Everett F. Harris Jr. who died March 12, 1997; her parents; sister, Phyllis Brown, infant twin sisters, Jeanne and Joanne Land; father-in-law, Everett F. Harris Sr. and mother-in-law, Mary Pauline Harris. Visitation for Ruth E. Harris will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main St., Centerville. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Harry Holloway officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
