Ruth L. Watkins

RICHMOND, Ind. – Ruth L. Watkins, age 89, of Richmond, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Richmond Place Nursing Home in Lexington, Kentucky. Born March 5, 1922, in Johnetta, Kentucky, to Foster L. and Georgia Branaman Chasteen, she lived most of her life in Wayne County. Ruth was a 1940 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Kentucky. She worked during her early years at Crosley for five years and at Belden for five years. After her marriage to Wayne, she was a devoted homemaker. When the children were older, she worked at INA (Insurance Company of North America) for several years. Ruth and Wayne were charter members and instrumental in the beginning of the Northside Church of Christ. Both taught Sunday School, worked in VBS, and did whatever they could to further Christ's kingdom. While she will be greatly missed, her family takes great comfort in her faith and the reunion that she is enjoying, which is promised in the Scriptures. Survivors include her daughter, Garnet (Ron) Eversole of Lexington, Kentucky; son, Wayne J. (Marguerite) Watkins of Crossville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Winni (Grant) Gaydorus of Camillus, New York, Jay Watkins of Suwanee, Georgia, Sharon (David) Baudler of Medina, Minnesota, David (Phyllis) Eversole of Monticello, Illinois, and Bethany (Trevor) White of Louisville, Kentucky; ten great-grandchildren, Lara (Jeff) Kemp of Duluth, Georgia, Beth Koslow of Tucker, Georgia, Ryan, Katherine, Jacob, Lucas, and Sarah Baudler of Medina, Minnesota, Lauren Eversole (Adam) Tomlinson and Amanda Eversole of Milligan College, Tennessee, and Jamin White of Louisville, Kentucky; two great-great-grandchildren, Collier Thompson and Olivia Kemp, both of Georgia; sister-in-law, Evelyn Chasteen of Richmond; and nephew, Mel (Sandy) Chasteen of Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne W. Watkins, who died in 1993; parents; and brother, Ralph Chasteen. Visitation for Ruth L. Watkins will be from 12 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Eastman and Pastor Bill Smith officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
