William H. Mullaney

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – William H. Mullaney, age 91, of Centerville, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Reid Hospital. Born February 3, 1923, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Thomas and Vivian Meetz Mullaney, he lived in this area most of his life. William attended St. Augustine Catholic Schools in Cincinnati. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943-1946. William worked at American Can in Cincinnati as an Electricians Helper and Wayne County REMC where he was one of the original linemen starting in 1946. He was a Marathon Oil Distributor for 20 years. William then returned to Wayne County REMC retiring in 1986. He grew up close to Crosley Field, loving baseball and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. As a boy he had the opportunity to witness one of Johnny Vandermeer’s no hitters. William was a member of the National Association of Amateur Radio Operators, American Legion Post # 287 in Centerville, and a former member of the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department. He loved golfing, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. William never met a stranger and was a great friend to many people. Survivors include his sons, Gary (Liz Haynes) Mullaney and Ron Mullaney, both of Centerville; two sisters, Merilyn Johnson of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and Shirley (Albert) Bricking of Bellevue, Kentucky; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Mullaney to whom he was married for 60 years; parents; brothers, Thomas, Robert, Raymond, Leonard, and Richard Mullaney; and sisters, JoAnn Hudson and Edna Rowe. Visitation for William H. Mullaney will be from 12 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
