Donald Winchester

RICHMOND, IN. -Donald Winchester passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2024, in Richmond, Indiana, the community that welcomed him into the world on October 22, 1946. He loved spending time with his family and friends, always ready with a listening ear and a helping hand. Don proudly served in the U.S. Army, and after that, he built an impressive career at NATCO and eventually retired as the Vice President of Nixon Tool Company. Together with his wife, Julia, they chased their entrepreneurial dreams and owned Salisbury Saddlery, Noah's Ark Feed Barn, and Salisbury Stables, where he blended his love for animals with his business talents. In addition to his professional life, Don's passions included trap shooting, where he excelled and formed lasting friendships. He was also an avid computer and CB radio hobbyist, often spending hours tinkering with the latest technology and sharing his knowledge with others. In his retirement, Don kept life exciting by riding his Harley Davidson, collecting Winchester rifles and merchandise, and exploring gadgets and gizmos. He leaves behind his daughter, Amy (Mark) Dillon; and sons, Jeff (Melissa) Winchester and Jon (Marcy) Winchester. His spirit lives on in his grandchildren— Andrea Russell, Tyler (Savannah) Dillon, Liz (Michelle) Winchester, Ben (Courtney) Winchester, Laura Martin, Allison (Clinton) Kellis, James Remley, Ben (Jodi) Murphy, Josh (Maria) Murphy, Ryan Murphy; and his 20 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces; nephews; cousins; and cherished friends. Plus, there's his sweet feline friend, Julie, who will miss him dearly. Don was preceded in death by his dear wife, Julia; his parents, Lonnie and Opal Winchester; as well as other beloved family members. The family is grateful to Reid Health Hospice for their compassionate care. All friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate Don’s life on Thursday, September 5, at Doan and Mills Funeral Home, 790 West National Road, Richmond, IN. There’ll be a chance to socialize from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service. Everyone is welcome—Don would want you to be there!
