Jeraldine "Jerrie" Grace McConaha Craig

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Jeraldine Grace McConaha Craig came into the world on Valentine’s Day, 1924, and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2014. Born February 14, 1924, in Centerville, to Lawrence Jackson and Bessie Townsend McConaha, she was a lifetime resident of Centerville, Indiana, and was known by her shortened name of Jerrie (which she was quick to let you know that it was ‘Jerrie with a J’). Jerrie was a 1942 graduate of Centerville High School and a proud 1946 graduate of Purdue University in the field of Home Economics. Married to Donald G. Craig in 1946, the young couple started their life farming, and later purchased the family farm, where Jerrie spent her whole life as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful member of her church family. Jerrie was proud of her Centerville heritage and especially the barn her great-grandfather built in 1885, which still serves a useful purpose. She enjoyed attending the Centerville High School Class reunions, her church’s ladies’ salad buffet, and church bible studies. God’s handiwork in nature brought her great joy, and she loved to snap pictures to share with loved ones. No one could stay on top of the sports world better than she did: NBA, college (especially her Boilermakers), tennis, football, and any other sport you would care to debate. Her talents in the kitchen always invited the family back home for holidays, birthdays, and any other social event that allowed the family to taste that special recipe or swipe some cookie dough from the bowl before it hit the oven. Survivors include her children: Alan (Susan) Craig and their daughters Natalie (Jason) and Alyssa (Matt), Andy (Carol) Craig and their sons Jason (Melissa) and James (April), and Sara (Rick) Brewer and their children Kyle (Heather), Oggy (Beth), and Brittany (Mike); sister, Carrol McConaha Rhodes; and sister-in-law, Patricia Schmitt. Jerrie also had 12 great-grandchildren and many very dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald G. Craig who died February 10, 2004; parents; sister, Marjorie McConaha; and brother, George W. McConaha. Visitation for Jeraldine Grace McConaha Craig will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014, at Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
