Numon Johnson

RICHMOND, IN- Long time Richmond barber, Numon Johnson, died Friday, December 29, 2023. He was born June 9, 1938, in McKee, Kentucky, the seventh child of James and Lessie Harrison Johnson, and lived most of his life in the Richmond Area. Mr. Johnson had completed over fifty years of barbering before his retirement in 2013. After retirement he continued hunting, playing cards, telling stories, and spending time with his family, including his six grandchildren and his little lap dog, Mac. He particularly enjoyed cutting the grandsons’ hair, teaching them to hunt, and following all six of the grandchildren as they pursued their education and participated in their various sports and other activities. Through the years, he had been actively involved with Optimist Baseball League, The Eagles, and was a member of the Centerville Christian Church. He will always be remembered by his wife, children, and grandchildren, as a loving, caring, and generous husband, dad, and grandpa. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Johnson; two sons, Alan Johnson, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and James K. Johnson of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two step children, Amy (Jim) Williams, of Greenwood, Indiana, and Robert (Heidi) Wales, of Hagerstown, Indiana; former daughter in law, Carrie Johnson of Westfield, Indiana; six grandchildren, Emma (Nick) Butler, Sam Johnson, Hannah (Andy) Snyder, Beau Wales, Jackson Williams, Molly Williams; brother, Ralph (Phyllis) Johnson, of Richmond, Indiana; sister, Vada Fulton, of Florida; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ivon, Vivon, Prize, and Earl; and sisters, Avus, Jurlet, and Rebecca. Visitation for Numon Johnson will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home.
