Pastor H. Lynn Seagraves

RICHMOND, Ind. – Lynn’s dash began on May 5, 1948, in Fentress County, Tennessee. He was born to Hershel D. and Imogene Dishman Seagraves. Lynn’s early life and education were to take place there. He graduated from York Institute in 1966 and attended Tennessee Tech University from 1966 through 1969. Lynn married Ora Lee Terry on July 1, 1967. They both accepted Jesus Christ as Savior in 1973 and soon moved to Muncie, Indiana. They attended Fellowship Baptist Church, where Lynn served as a Sunday school teacher. He was ordained as a deacon in 1978 and called into the ministry in 1982. Lynn served as an assistant pastor and did supply work for various churches until 1986, when he was called to pastor the Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond. In April 2003, Lynn went to Robbins, Tennessee, to pastor the Mountain View Baptist Church. He was there for four years, returning to Freedom in 2007, where he remained as Pastor, serving for 10 more years. In all, Lynn served as a pastor for 31 years. On September 17, 2015, he was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, Indiana’s highest state award. Lynn had a great love for the Word of God and liked to paint landscapes and write poetry, songs, and devotionals. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ora Lee Terry Seagraves of Richmond; two sons, Bryan Seagraves of Muncie, Indiana, and Aaron (Heather) Seagraves of Oneida, Tennessee; three grandsons, Leland, Hunter, and Connor Seagraves of Muncie; sister, Virginia (Tim) Miller of Apison, Tennessee; brothers, Tim and Ronnie Seagraves of Jamestown, Tennessee; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lois Slaven and Robin Potter. Visitation for Pastor H. Lynn Seagraves will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. (EST) Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Freedom Missionary Baptist Church, 794 South Round Barn Road, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Freedom Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Elam officiating.
