Wm. Nelson Burton

RICHMOND, Ind. - Wm. Nelson Burton, age 87, of Richmond, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born March 27, 1925, in Heidelberg, Kentucky, to John Wesley and Manda Jane Taulbee Burton, he lived in this area most of his life. He attended Beattyville High School. Nelson served in the United States Army during WWII. He earned his Master Barber License from Indiana Barber College. Nelson attended Richmond Business College and Miller Real Estate School, where he earned his Realtor and Broker license. He sold Real Estate for Otto Realty and Century 21 and did appraisals for General Finance. Nelson was the owner and operator of Lynnwood Barber Shop in Richmond for more than forty years. He was also the owner and operator of the A&N Barber Shop in Centerville. Following retirement, Nelson worked for Richmond Parks and Recreation and managed the Middlefork Service Center for twelve years. He was a member of First Church of God for 75 years, where he was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher as well as an usher. Nelson was a member of the Centerville Library Board for twelve years. He helped to develop the Centerville Little League ball park. Nelson was a member of the Richmond Board of Realtors and the Richmond Conservation Club. He was an avid fisherman who loved his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Alberta Campbell Burton, to whom he was married August 3, 1963. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in August. He is also survived by his sons, John (Beverly) Burton of Clearwater, Florida, Ricky (Susie) Burton of Etowah, North Carolina, Russell L. (Kathy) Wright of Richmond, Jim Wright of Anderson, and Jerry (Brenda) Wright of Centerville; grandchildren, Christina Wright, Michael Burton, Aubrey Blue, Chris Wright, Jimmy Wright, Brian Wright, Josh Wright, Lance Burton, Brandt Burton, Blaire Foubister, Bryan McGowan, and Jacob Wright; great-grandchildren, Cassidy York, River Blue, Lane Wright, Amelia Foubister, and Devyn McGowan; nieces; nephews; other extended family; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillie Farmer, Emma Reece, Adah Reece, and Lousetta Farmer; brothers, Ephram Burton, Jefferson Burton, Woodrow Burton, and Curtis Conley; and his first wife, Mary Cardwell Burton. Visitation for Wm. Nelson Burton will be from 2 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Register officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, in Centerville, with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
